HALF-A-HEART
From approximately 1890 to 1920, the Glasgow Four, led by Charles Rennie
Mackintosh, worked around the Glasgow School of Art. They group produced
decorative works of furniture, architecture, panels and embroideries that
allowed them to be quickly recognised as the leading figures in Scottish
Art Nouveau and Scottish Arts and Crafts.
The Glasgow Four were heavily influenced by Art Nouveau and Symbolism and
generated many stylistic details including organic forms and the female form. Motifs
included the rose, heart, leaf and teardrop.
NORD’s Half-a-heart tile is a geometric interpretation of the Glasgow
Four’s heart motif that was common within many of their works around
Glasgow.
