DROUTH

DROUTH formed the centerpiece at the 2004 Designersblock Scottish Show at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile [Milan International Furniture Fair]

DROUTH is a custom made functioning bar that combines strict functionality and luxury. Assembled from standard white fireclay urinal components [trough, backslab, divider and Belfast sinks] more typically associated with institutional environments such as schools and hospitals. These items are in contrast to the luxurious brass inlay plates and decadent brass taps and fonts.

The form of the bar takes its cue from a mortuary slab that enforces an idea of hygiene and utilitarianism.
The urinal is utilised around the perimeter of the bar and is filled with ice during service. The Belfast sinks are in the middle of the bar and form bottle coolers with two remaining to be utilised as wash-up sinks. The stall dividers form a skirt around the perimeter and with the back slabs form the posts upon which the bar sits. Within these upstands are shelves to contain glassware.

It is envisaged that DROUTH will raise an eyebrow and a smile simultaneously.
